How Insane Impact Gave a Small-Town Gym a Big-City Upgrade

Setting the Scene

Building on a Blank Canvas

This private school in a small, Northern Iowa town was in need of a big city upgrade. When Gehlen Catholic Schools set out to install video boards in their newly renovated gym, they needed a partner who could deliver a collegiate-level experience — without losing the heart of what makes a small-town school special. For Insane Impact's Tod Puetz, a Gehlen Catholic alumnus who once played on that very gym floor, this wasn't just another installation. It was a chance to give back to his home turf, and he poured everything into it.

Making an Impact

The Envy of the Entire Conference

Insane Impact stepped up to the plate and turned Gehlen’s high school gym into a collegiate-level experience by installing:

  • A commanding 17’x10’, 3.9mm main video board anchoring one end of the gym with stunning clarity and presence
  • A 50’, 3.9mm ribbon board stretching above the stage at the opposite end — the showpiece of the entire installation
  • A 12’x7’, 3.9mm secondary scoreboard ensuring scoring and advertising remain visible from every seat in the house

The result? A gym that once felt like any other now stops visitors in their tracks. Coaches say their teams feel like they're playing in a big-city arena. Community members walk through those double doors and feel like they're part of something bigger. Staff put it simply: the entire energy of the space changed overnight.

Gehlen Catholic didn't just upgrade their gym—they set a new standard for what a small school can be. And now, every team that walks through those doors knows it.
